Produksi dan biaya produksi bagaikan keping logam mata uang yang bersisi dua. Jika produksi berbicara tentang nilai fisik penggunaan faktor prosuksi, biaya mengukurnya dengan nilai mata uang. Dalam ekonomi yang sudah modern, di mana peranan uang amat penting, maka ukuran efisiensi yang baik (walaupun bukan paling lengkap) adalah uang. Sesuatu yang efisien secarra teknis, belum tentu secara finansial dan eskonomi menguntungkan.
